Facebook and Instagram ads

Nobody searches for a clean driveway at 9pm. They are on Facebook.

Most of the work you want is not being searched for. It is being put off by somebody who has not looked at their gutters in three years. Meta ads put the before and after in front of them, on their street, while they are sat on the sofa.

Want the people already searching instead? That is a different job. Google Ads management.

Two ways to buy attention

One answers a question. The other asks one.

Google Ads

Somebody has typed in what they want. High intent, higher cost per click, and capped by how many people are searching in your town this month. When the searches run out, so does the campaign.

"gutter cleaning near me"

That is our Google Ads page

Meta Ads

Nobody was looking. You show them a roof on a house like theirs, half cleaned, and they realise theirs is worse. Cheaper leads, far more of them, and the whole thing lives or dies on following them up fast.

A before and after, two streets away

That is this page

Why it did not work last time

Four reasons Facebook ads lose people money

Almost everyone who tells us Facebook does not work for their trade has done at least two of these.

One

It was a boosted post

Boosting is a button, not a campaign. No lead form, no proper targeting, no way to tell what a lead cost. It buys likes from people who will never spend a penny with you, and it is what most people mean when they say they tried Facebook ads.

Two

A stock photo and the word professional

Nobody stops for a stock photo. They stop for a filthy roof half cleaned, filmed on a phone, on a house that looks like theirs. The creative is most of the job and it is the part people skip.

Three

Nobody rang the leads back

A Meta lead is not a Google lead. They were not looking, so the interest fades in minutes, not days. Leads that get a text in sixty seconds and a call the same hour book. Leads chased the next afternoon do not.

Four

It got switched off in week two

The first fortnight is the expensive one while the campaign learns. Turning it off then and declaring Facebook useless is like judging a van by the first mile. Most of the cheap leads come after that.

What we actually do

Four pieces of work, in this order

1. Build the offer

The ad is only as good as the thing it is offering.

  • A reason to act now, not eventually
  • Priced or free, never vague
  • Aimed at one job, not your whole service list
  • Written in the words your customers use

2. Make the creative

The single biggest lever on what a lead costs.

  • Before and afters from your own jobs
  • Short phone video where we have it
  • Several angles, tested against each other
  • Rebuilt when they tire, not left to rot

3. Run it properly

A real campaign, built in Ads Manager, not a boost.

  • Instant forms so nobody leaves Facebook
  • Your area and your radius, not the whole county
  • Daily budget set so it can learn
  • Winning ads scaled, losing ones cut

4. Catch the lead before it cools

This is where most of the money is won or lost.

  • Text and email within seconds
  • Straight into your diary
  • Chased again if they go quiet
  • Instant alert to your phone

How the first month goes

Live in about a week, cheapest by week three

Days 1 to 7

Offer and creative

We agree the offer, pull photos from your jobs and build the ads and the form. You see everything before it runs.

Weeks 2 to 3

Learning

The first leads are the dearest. We let it gather data, then cut the ads and audiences that are not pulling their weight.

Week 4 onward

Scale what works

Budget moves to the winning creative and we start building the next batch, because every ad tires eventually.

Honest bit

These numbers are real and they are not a promise. 406 gutter leads at £3.97, 800 carpet cleaning leads at £2.74, 335 window cleaning leads at £3.56, 333 roof cleaning leads at £4.04. Different trades, different towns, different years. Yours will land somewhere of its own, and we will not know where until it has run.

A lead is not a job. Jet Kings turned theirs into £34,156 of booked work at a 46.7% win rate, and that happened because George rang people back quickly. A cheap lead that sits in an inbox for two days is worth nothing, which is why the follow-up is half of what we build.

Meta leads are colder than Google ones. They were not looking for you. Expect more of them, cheaper, and expect to work harder on the phone. If you would rather have five people who already want the job than thirty who might, Google Ads is the better fit and we will say so.

No contract. If it is not working you stop.

Questions

The things people ask before they start

How much should I spend?

Usually £500 to £1,000 a month of ad spend, paid straight to Meta. That is enough for the campaign to learn and for the cost per lead to settle. Some of our clients run less once it is working; one got down to a pound a day and was still stacked out, but that is after the hard part, not instead of it.

What if I have no photos?

Then that is the first job. Before and afters off your phone beat anything we could buy, and a filthy roof half done is worth more than any stock image. If you genuinely have none we can start with text-led ads, but get the camera out, because the creative is most of the result.

How is this different from Google Ads?

Google catches people already searching. This creates the demand. Meta usually brings more leads for the same money and they are colder, so the follow-up matters far more. Plenty of clients run both. The comparison is on the Google Ads page.

Will I get exclusive leads?

Yes. These are your campaigns, in your name, on your page, and the leads come to you and nobody else. We are not a lead seller and we do not sell the same enquiry to five firms.

Do you write the ads?

Yes, copy and creative both, and we test several against each other rather than guessing right first time. You approve everything before it runs.

Am I tied into a contract?

No, month to month. The only thing worth saying is that leaving in week two means paying for the learning period and walking away before the cheap leads start.
